Why this shape: Fly into Tenerife South to overlap your friend's last kite days, then let the ferry chain carry you east — Tenerife → Gran Canaria → Fuerteventura → Lanzarote — so you never backtrack and fly home from the far end (Lanzarote, ACE). Every island hop is a ferry; the only car is the few shared days with your friend on Tenerife, plus an optional scooter/car day here and there.

Car plan: rent with your friend on Tenerife for 2-3 days (split cost), return it before the ferry. After that, base yourself near each ferry port and grab a scooter or a 1-day car only if an island's interior pulls you (Lanzarote's Timanfaya + La Geria is the one worth a car day). No one-way rentals, ever.

Kite: El Médano (Tenerife, with your friend) and Sotavento (Fuerteventura) are two of Europe's best flatwater/wave spots — both are right where the ferries land. Famara on Lanzarote is the bonus.
